Thinking about a highlight of our excursion to Liverpool
is not easy, because there were so many amazing and interesting places to visit
that making a ranking or nominating a special event as “number one” is almost
impossible. However thinking about a highlight apart from the museums, the
landscape of the Lake and Peak Districts or the two cathedrals of Liverpool and other tourist attractions, there was one
experience that can be mentioned as the highlight of the excursion. While all
the other visits were cultural events one was not: Going out at night, but not
(as happened regularly) going to a pub, but instead going to a club called
“Walkabout”. You will never experience something like that when going to a
disco or a club in Germany.
The girls wore miniskirts that were so mini that they should better be called
belts. Dressing in a way which would draw looks of disapproval in Germany is totally normal in Liverpool
and that's not all: The behaviour within the club was even more unbelievable
but certainly amazing to watch. Men were so drunk that they started to strip
and girls took part in a “wet T-Shirt contest” for a bottle of champagne as a
prize. You started to wonder how people could debase themselves so much.
Although it was a very interesting experiment to see the young British having a
party, I must admit that this is absolutely not my cup of tea. I know now the
way they do it, but I still prefer a rather civilised party without so many
boozy people pulling out all the stops. It’s interesting to have a look at it
if you go to Liverpool, but that's enough until maybe the next visit to Liverpool...
